Comprehensive Orthodontic Screening
We evaluate your child’s bite, palate width, and dental development.

Widen the Palate. Skip the Screws.
Some children need help creating room in a narrow upper jaw for their permanent teeth to come in properly. Harbor Dental offers the Invisalign® Palatal Expander System — a modern, removable alternative to traditional metal expanders.
The Invisalign Palatal Expander System is a series of 3D-printed, removable appliances that gradually widen a child’s upper jaw to create space for incoming permanent teeth — without the metal, screws, or manual turning key required by traditional expanders. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a child’s first orthodontic check-up by age 7, since some problems are easier to correct while the jaw is still growing.

No hardware pressing against the roof of the mouth, and no screw to turn at home.

Comes out for eating and brushing, so there are no food restrictions and hygiene stays simple.

Each expander is designed from a digital scan of your child’s unique anatomy.

Some orthodontic problems are easier to correct while a child is still growing, which is why the American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial evaluation by age 7.
Your child may benefit from an evaluation if they have:

Each expander is designed with a small activation increment and covers the back teeth, gradually applying gentle pressure to widen the upper arch over time. Attachments bonded to your child’s teeth help keep each expander securely in place during wear.
Because the system is removable, your child (or a parent) can insert and remove it independently — most children are able to manage this on their own, unlike traditional expanders that require a dental professional or caregiver to adjust.
Pricing depends on the length of the expansion and stabilization phases and your child’s specific treatment plan. Financing and payment plan options are typically available to help make treatment manageable — talk with our team about designing a plan that works for your family.
Remove the expander before brushing and flossing, and clean it gently with a toothbrush as directed. Because it’s fully removable, there are no food restrictions — encourage your child to wear it as consistently as prescribed, since consistent wear is what keeps treatment on schedule. Contact the office if the expander feels uncomfortable, doesn’t fit properly, or is lost or damaged.

It’s a series of 3D-printed, removable appliances that gradually widen a child’s upper jaw to create space for permanent teeth — a modern alternative to traditional metal expanders that doesn’t require screws or a turning key.
Traditional expanders are metal, stay in place for the full treatment, and require regular manual turning of a screw. The Invisalign system is removable, custom 3D-printed, and doesn’t involve any hardware to adjust at home.
Yes. Your child can take it out for eating and cleaning, which means no food restrictions and simpler oral hygiene compared to a fixed metal expander.
The system applies gentle, gradual pressure through small increments, which is designed to be more comfortable than a traditional expander. Some mild pressure when starting a new expander is normal.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. The right timing depends on your child’s individual development and bite, which we’ll assess at a consultation.
Treatment length varies based on the amount of expansion needed. After the active expansion phase, a Palatal Holder is typically worn and replaced every 2-4 weeks to stabilize the results.
Yes — the expanders are designed to be worn full-time, including while eating and drinking, and changed daily or every other day as prescribed, to keep treatment on track.
Coverage varies by plan. Our team can help you understand your options, and financing or payment plans are typically available as well.
A Palatal Holder is used to stabilize the palate before moving to the next phase of treatment, which may include Invisalign First™ clear aligners depending on your child’s needs.
